Update: Candlelight Vigil and Documentary Screening in Solidarity
We are holding a candlelight vigil, singing “Redemption Song” in solidarity with those who have been arrested illegally for standing against Galamsey.
As part of the vigil, JoyNews’ Erastus Asare Donkor is presenting documentaries that expose the deformities and other harmful effects of Galamsey on the lives of Ghanaians.
These powerful visuals reinforce the urgent need for action and remind us why we must continue the fight for justice.

📍 Vigil at Accra Sports Stadium
We are currently at the Accra Sports Stadium car park, where a heartfelt vigil is taking place.
The atmosphere is filled with unity and hope as the people sing Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song,” a powerful anthem for freedom and justice.
“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; none but ourselves can free our minds.” These words resonate so deeply with our cause and we do not take it lightly.

In response to the recent meeting between the leaders of Organised Labour and President Akufo-Addo, the government has once again issued an empty message on the fight against Galamsey.
Despite growing concerns and demands for action, no concrete steps or detailed plans were provided, leaving many frustrated with the lack of progress on this pressing issue.

Update: President Akufo-Addo Pleads for More Time to Address Galamsey Crisis
In a meeting with leaders of Organised Labour, President Akufo-Addo has appealed for more time to effectively tackle the ongoing Galamsey menace. He acknowledged the severity of the issue but emphasized the complexity of the challenge, asking for patience as his government works on long-term solutions.
However, we are calling for swift and efficient implementation of measures and the prosecution of those involved in illegal mining. The longer we wait, the more damage is done, and the consequences become even more severe for our communities and environment.
