Fellow Protesters,

As we continue to demand justice and an end to galamsey, we've uncovered a disturbing evidence of police intimidation tactics. Our courageous brothers and sisters in custody are being coerced into re-enacting the protest scene for police cameras—a clear violation of their fundamental human rights and dignity. This outrageous abuse of power is a blatant attempt to silence our voices, undermine our movement and perpetuate the oppressive status quo. But we refuse to be intimidated!

On October 3, 2024, protesters in police custody were taken to the 37 Military Hospital and forced to re-enact the protest. This was done without disclosing officers' identities and denying detainees' right to legal counsel.

Our very fine, honorable Lawyers for Protest Defence (LPD) has confirmed these allegations and we stand in solidarity with them in condemning this blatant disregard for due process.

In a display of solidarity, our diasporan protesters gathered outside the Ghana High Commission in London, demanding an end to the devastating practice of galamsey, Ghana's illegal mining operations that have ravaged water bodies and landscapes. The London protest was a critical extension of the domestic struggle in Ghana, bridging continents and bringing international attention to this environmental crisis.

The protesters, a diverse group of Ghanaians and allies, wielded placards that captured the essence of the conflict between economic gain and environmental preservation. Slogans like "Blood, Gold, Greed!" and "Water No Bi Politics" emphasized the urgent need for action, transcending political affiliations and highlighting the core issue of human survival and dignity. The London protesters' message was clear: the time for change is now. They called for the immediate release of our unlawfully detained activists in Ghana, stressing the importance of civil liberties in the fight for ecological justice.

As the world watched, the voices from London added a compelling chapter to the ongoing narrative of resistance against systemic injustices and galamsey. The protesters' commitment to environmental justice and sustainable practices served as a rallying cry echoing the sentiment that protecting our planet is a shared responsibility that knows no borders.

The protest was a testament to the power of collective action, demonstrating that even miles away from the frontlines, voices can make a difference. As the clock ticks down, the global community must unite to demand immediate intervention against galamsey and promote sustainable practices for the future generation.

The Pan African movement has issued a statement strongly condemning the Ghanaian government's handling of galamsey (illegal mining) protests, which resulted in the unlawful arrest and detention of 53 citizens.

The movement denounces the government's prioritization of powerful interests over citizens' rights to a safe environment and demands immediate release of the detained protesters.

The statement also highlights alarming human rights abuses by the Ghana Police Service, including denial of access to basic necessities, life-saving medication, and lawyers.

The movement urges all civil society organizations, human rights groups, and justice-seeking individuals to unite against galamsey and oppressive forces perpetuating human rights abuses.

Key demands include:
